Can dental cavities protect from cancer?

Who doesn’t love carries free healthy teeth? Most dental health conscious people tend to use various methods to keep their teeth plaque free, for example tooth brushing, flossing, using mouthwashes etc. But did you ever think, if the dental cavities can be beneficial to our health in any way? Well, recent studies show that tooth cavities can decrease the risks of developing certain head and neck cancers. The possible scientific basis is that, the lactic acid produced by bacteria, which causes the dental plaque has certain cancer protective roles. More insight is expected to reveal in future.


The report was published Sept. 12 in the online edition of JAMA Otolaryngology — Head & Neck Surgery.
