Childhood obesity is a widely discussed topic among doctors since these can predispose a child to various diseases like diabetes, heart disease etc. as they grow up and eventually affecting their adult life. Not all childhood obesity are attributed to heredity or family history. Mostly they are due to excessive consumption of high calorie foods rich in saturated fat, trans fat, sugar etc. In today’s discussion we will try to see what is contributing in their increasingly high caloric intake.
Informed parents will always try to protect their children from bad food products. But parents who lack the necessary information may not be able to decide what type of food they should give less. But it’s not always the parents fault. Have you ever tried to notice how lucrative are advertisements of food commodities high in sugar, salt and bad fats are? The current day advertisement culture and their stunning presentation make even adults believe that those are essential for healthy living so, it’s quite obvious children will fall prey to those classifieds.
The above scenario is common to most parts of the world while in the developing world it will probably have another point added to it that is adulteration. In developing nations the opportunity of adulteration is much higher than developed countries since food authorities are either reluctant about the quality of food or notoriously corrupt. If you taste a same brand’s soft drink in US and then taste it in a developing country you may appreciate the difference. They taste bizarre and toxic in poor nations, however companies seem to attempt masking those taste imperfections by making those drinks highly sugary along with the beautiful ads by the celebrities. Young minds tend to float first, when they see their favorite actor or actresses consuming those drinks in the ads.
Recently international health organisations also urged about effects of these stunning ads of unhealthy food products on children. Ads may be of smoking or of such high calorie foods are needed to be controlled in stricter manner to protect our future generations, other wise we will have the world overburdened with obesity, diabetes, stroke, heart disease, cancer etc. We are already having millions affected by this decade and let’s not allow this toll to rise. Even may governments don’t take appropriate steps we need to be informed and protect ourselves. So share this information with your close near and dear ones and contribute to health of our future generations, may be silently. Your whisper can make their health roar with happiness, someday!
