How do newborn babies get tuberculosis at birth? Getting tuberculosis at birth is also called congenital tuberculosis. Although its alarming, it’s not very common.

Now the question is how can a newborn baby get tuberculosis at birth?

Well there are 2 ways how a newborn baby can get tuberculosis.

One is through blood. Mother’s blood that enters baby’s body through the umbilical cord can bring in tuberculosis causing bacillus.

The second way is through amniotic fluid i.e. the sac of fluid in which baby is in when he is in mother’s womb. This fluid might get into the baby’s body if he swallows or inhales it.
