If you have a major surgery to go through, don’t forget to carry your hearing aids and spectacles: why?

20150329_140055This topic must sound amazing but is important to know.

After major surgeries or patients who are admitted in ICU’s are sometimes at risk of a sudden onset confusion like state called delirium. They may talk irrelevant, have decreased attention and might act violently (although not always necessarily).

Those who use spectacles and/or hearing aids find it difficult due to the deficit of proper vision or hearing.

While your doctor investigates for the cause of delirium, a small contribution from your end by keeping the spectacles and hearing aids available to the patient might help reduce the problem.
