Why cesarean sections are rising in private practice in India?

In the recent time, particularly in private practice the toll of cesarean sections are quite high in various parts of India. This author tried to speculate why cesarean sections are rising in India and here are the understandings of this author (which are also enriched by some real life experiences).

First question is whom to blame for this rising trend of C- sections in the private practice, the doctors or the patients. The answer might seem like to both, but I feel doctors. Why? Some people might cite that the ladies today are too softie and want everything smoothly with out undergoing the labor pain. But I feel that it’s not wrong for a woman to avoid pain of all sort in life and even labor pain. Besides alleviating pain, since family sizes are shrinking these days and becoming restricted to 1 to 2 children a vaginal delivery might be perceived as risky health practice by some pregnant mothers and their families, who feel cesarean can be a safe alternative to achieve a complication free birth. Rampage drivers to fly drones

I first heard about ‘Drones’ when I witnessed their use in warfare and spying, in television news. Then in movies and recently read in news websites about its potential usage for delivering courier or online shopping items to our doorsteps. Although, a lot of arguments are ongoing about the possible misuse of drones in freight of goods by online shopping companies, some are even imagining about its possible future use in daily commuting of humans.

If drones are to be used in future for our daily commute to office, developing nations in particular will be benefitted, in my view. Why? Let’s discuss it in terms of a city like Mumbai in India, where roads are clogged up with suffocating traffic and where bike riders and three wheeler rickshaws are in a competition to prod their front wheel in every small gap they find in the heavy traffic to beat other vehicles in the race of reaching earlier to their destinations (however, unless you have been in such roads you can’t get the actual essence of it). Waiting with the sea

DSC_2760Where does this story coins? Somewhere along the bay of Arabian Sea in about a stone throw distance away from the sea shore. I am relentlessly waiting for my clients who are yet to show up. It’s afternoon, the small hand of my watch just ticked to one. My present niche includes a small room from where through the tinted glass and over a heavy wire barbed fenced concrete wall, I can see the sea’s dark water splashing the boulders.

Today the view in this afternoon is bit different, the couples who generally are preoccupied on those boulders ashore busy making intimacy through engaging their wet lips are not present today, may be due to the scorching heat. But the weather’s warmth isn’t annoying my vision at all, because of the filthy spotted glass window.

Scads of children (boys) are bathing in the sea. Most looks like school students because they were wearing blue trousers and white shirts before dipping themselves in the sea water.  Seeing this high water levels and these lonely unsupervised kids I was trying to recall the  counter scenario at western nations where lifeguards along the coasts are deployed who keep an birds eye on those in the water. But here, along the shore of this developing nation probably ‘luck’ is their only lifeguard and life jacket. No-one cares apparently, except the parents and sometimes the latter too behave reluctant, as any other non human species where roles and responsibilities of parenting retires post breeding. Thankfully, during the entire timespan I scanned my vision in the sea, things were in favour of life and goodness.

While these kids were splashing themselves to beat the heat, about half a kilometre away from them an amazing play of some avian species were on motion. A huge flock of sea birds were spiralling above the sea water.  They were combing over the sea water using their legs almost alike how we swipe credit cards at a shopping centre. Such natural extravaganza generally ignites a hunch in my brain try understand those phenomenon in absolute details, may be due to too much contemplation of nature and animal related TV shows. Probably those birds are fishing by their claws and hence making repeated attempts to scratch on the sea surface. I desperately felt the need of a telescopic camera through which I could have cropped and saved this piece of moment on my laptop. Sadly, we don’t always carry all accessories we require in our life, and is true in my case too. I appreciated the amazing skill of those birds of nailing through the surface of water with out (possibly) getting wet. It seemed like a small aircraft gently gliding over the surface of water and flying away. Unfortunately, we humans despite having the craziest brains can’t do such an act naturally, due the absence of wings. Nevertheless, the panorama was heart-warming indeed.

Oh, a client has come, I must return to my real time human life situation and come out of those floating expensive thoughts and plunge my head back into my work. So, let me pull over this writing here, for now.

Air hostess or pilot – whose belly appalls you the most?

In general most people have the concept of female air hostess although males are also largely dipping their toe in the profession. Slim female air hostess is a vogue which still exists in many sections of the airline industry and is also largely depicted in the advertisements of many airline companies to boast about their in flight hospitality service. However, it’s probably uncommon to see any advert showing slim pilots, who play the prime role of flying the aircraft safely. In my opinion, a slim pilot should equally be looked for and customers should urge for it too in the ads.

If you are wondering why did I coin such bizarre topic, here is the answer. Recently, during a flight travel while waiting boringly at the pre-departure lounge at an airport I noticed few pilots (males) with big protruding belly comparable to 3rd trimester of a female pregnancy. In contrast, the accompanying female air hostesses were looking just too emaciated to mention. That view at the airport made me to write this post to encourage the readers to think about the various facets of such health architecture of pilots and its disparity with the rest of the airline crews.

Some of the female air hostesses in airlines operating in third world countries whom I came across say that to keep their job in motion they must maintain an absolute flat belly. Some even say that they are weighed frequently (almost daily) to monitor if they are keeping a static weight or not. Some even say, they are not supposed to marry (true or false not sure), because the airline company might not be ready to support crew who are going to conceive. Male staff who accompany them are also maintaining an absolute slim figure, and some even with added regular gym goers macho look. So far that’s how is the non-cabin crew’s story.

But how about the pilot, who is possibly one of the main individual involved in flying the airplane  safely to its destination. Since, pilots don’t have direct face to face interaction with the passengers on board, airline companies don’t care much about how many extra kilo’s they put on. Their chubby-hanging-suffocating belly don’t make the CEOs of the airliners shy. But should airline companies be concerned about it? Possibly, yes. It’s because a pilot on-board should be at the pinnacle of his best health records. Obesity is a significant risk factor for health fatalities like stroke or heart attack. Probably none of the passengers or crew on an aircraft would wish to have a nightmare of their pilot getting a heart attack in the sky.

Not sure about legal issues, but those who sniff around for suing someone may investigate this issue. I hope the autopilots are well equipped to gift us a safe landing if the pilot collapses for an inadvertent health event in the sky. One thing is however reassuring in this context, there is a system of having a copilot, hopefully he will be helpful to extract us in such situations. Although, pilots are supposed to go through regular health check, overweight pilots are becoming increasingly visible these days. The flight safety jeopardizes the most, not when a passenger or a non-cabin crew gets a myocardial infarction in the sky rather, when a pilot gets it.

Therefore, next time when you are in the airport, swipe your vision across the airport to see the health status of the pilots passing by. Share your feedback with the airline company or authority if you think they aren’t looking as healthy (in terms of excessive weight gain) as you expect.

Have a safe flight.

Merry Christmas!

Trump's victory may augment world peace

Mr. Trump’s win is democratic, so like Brexit it doesn’t matter you like or not, have to accept democracy with respect. Politics is no more good english speakers platform, intellectual show offs should be limited to university lectures. Rather it seems to be more based on real life scenarios that common man bothers of.

When things come to common man’s daily life all that matters is their basic needs like safety, employment, food etc. In today’s world, where most people find making a good living a product of hard work, a politician who mirrors their views, discussions and thoughts is going to get preference. It’s a sort of change we probably have to learn. Mr. Trump’s views in regard to certain issues may sound disturbing but people liked it and hence voted. Vote is a resonance of majority of the people’s view, although media is saying that he didn’t get majority of the votes. But doesn’t matter, the same calculation system existed for the previous presidents too.

Terror attacks across the world continued during the entire time of Mr. Obama administration and there was no decline; instead the world witnessed more wars. His speech is good but in reality didn’t make much difference in terrorist scenario in US or elsewhere. Furthermore, the current cold war type environment is also not appreciable; big powers like US, Russia and China should come together to propel the path of peace and harmony. Otherwise the arms race is futile unless US has already secured a safe haven at Mars because nothing will be left if nuclear war really take place one day. Therefore, one can hope that Mr. Trump time will address these issues and bring peace across the globe.

Moreover, when it comes to US where the community is diverse, it needs appreciation of the problems of major big clusters particularly those immigrated and became voters. Tump probably took care of these sections and that’s why people voted him, not ghosts. His opposition probably undermined his effort and expected that common man would follow the same tradition and pattern while voting; but voters thinking are different now a days. So let’s congratulate Mr. Trump. Monotony is not liked by most, hence people might have preferred to give a chance to the new face. Election will come again, and change is always possible.

How electric cars in US may impact traffic in Developing nations?

Electric cars are probably going to make into the roads of US very soon as per reports coming up from various news agencies. If electric cars become a success in US, plenty of unused gasoline run cars will become available for sell. Besides the unused ones there will be a huge number of new gasoline run cars not yet been sold which too will get added  to the stockpile of unused cars.

As usual, all that gets rejected in west gets dumped to the market of east i.e. the developing countries like India, Nepal etc. The craze for buying US cars can be high in the developing nations since many people who desire to own a western good branded car can’t simply get it because of its high price. Obviously, these cars if hit the shores of these nations will come in much low cost for stock clearance purpose. As a result, the already clogged and overtly polluted traffic situation of cities like Delhi, will worsen further.

Less likely the manufactures will wish to sell their electric cars now to the developing world immediately, they will probably wait for some time until they spot any deceleration in sales in western market. Let’s wait with patience to see the ultimate happenings in this regard.

Should we pay money to read news online?

news-media-standardsIn today’s online era, newspaper companies and tv news channels have simultaneously started to broadcast news through their websites too. This is probably because most readers have switched their reading habits from the paper version to the online mode.

During our childhood days, newspapers use to get delivered daily morning at our home. Newspapers had its own distinct smell, primarily because for its unique recycled paper quality. And on Sunday’s most newspaper sellers would provide some supplementary pages, generally in exchange of few extra bucks.

Newspapers at certain localities were important beyond its news content, as a symbol of social status. Newspapers meant style to many, a cup of coffee combined with newspaper in hand and rolling on a reclining chair use to be a preferred style of many individuals, and some still hold the practice alive today. While others use to buy newspaper for other miscellaneous purposes like finding their matrimonial alliance to searching a job or property.

Newspapers weren’t something very cheap always, cost wise, to splash its news droplets on every poor man’s house. Although one single subscription might not hurt one much economically but the monthly and annual expenses for regular subscription made many to resent silently.

But things are no more exactly the same, neither in developed world nor in the developing. Infiltration of internet even at remote parts of the globe is gradually making it much easier for people to get access to news, online.

You can now save significant amount of money that you would have otherwise paid every month to purchase paper version of newspapers and get the same news from the internet, absolutely free and from multiple news providers.

Since smart phones boomed in the market news reading on the web appears to have reached its pinnacle. Opening a laptop or pc to read news would have hindered many to go to online to read news always, but these smartphones have made that quite simple, simply a tap away! I think this is a good chance, to get to know the news is part of every human’s basic right and people should have options to get that free of cost.

However, recently we can find that some of the well renowned news media companies are gradually trying to convert their free online news to a pay and use service. They are starting with very low cost probably 10 dollars for 2-3 months subscription. Why such a monetizing attempt of the online news? May be they are not making enough profit by sell of news as they use to do with their paper version. Or may be human avarice for money has no end. Whatever may be the cause it might be uncomfortable for many readers who love to read news free of charge online.

Fortunately, some of the very popular old news broadcasting companies have not yet taken such initiative and are still providing news free over the internet.

If all such big news providers start to monetize by making online news a paid service, then the problem will start for people like me who don’t want to pay to read news on the internet. However, if such monetization of online happens in real world one day, small less popular news companies may find it as an advantage to blossom and make a hike in their popularity by allowing free access to news.

Social networking sites in this regard, possibly makes the best earning from news display, despite not being the primary news collector. Since a large number of people these days rely on social networking sites to scroll through news event from different news media, their ad based revenue remains quite solid.

“…the journalists, who write the news articles. How do they earn money if news is to be circulated free on the web?”

Although we see the headlines and a briefing of a news in the social networking site, we don’t always visit to the parent news broadcaster’s website to read the news. This means that the host news company don’t get that benefit what the social networking site gets, while it is so true that collecting news and then getting it typed in readable and presentable format is a daunting task.

This brings me to the journalists, who write the news articles. How do they earn money if news is to be circulated free on the web? Probably this easy access to news is not good for them. Not only that quality standard writing are now gradually becoming available in low profile news medias too due to a global rise of literacy and quality education.

Another sad point for journalists is that not every reader cares for good scholarly written articles. Many of the readers just want to read news in a pick a boo manner, similar to texting abbreviated text messages on their mobile phones, with no time or interest to delve into the news writers hard work. Well in that way sometimes it feels online news companies should also charged some money  to access their news. However, one thing pertaining to this issue one should not forget is that once a newspaper company which use to serve a small cluster of people at a region of the globe is now getting a global circulation by virtue of the internet, and therefore there loss and profit issue is really complicated.

“Whereas news is like a flower in the common man’s garden where both a truck driver and the president of a country can visit.”

But there is a flaw here too. Not every person who can’t cut a share of their monthly budget to read online news, is a poor reader. There are plenty of shrewd readers who truly appreciate the content of the writer but might not be willing to or able to pay for it.

In this regard, I feel one must not confuse an article written by a journalist for a common man with a research paper written for a mathematician, for instance. Popular research content publishing journals publish on a particular subject areas like maths or astrophysics which are frequently subscribed by universities for their libraries as reference materials to read for their staff and students. This can be a potential way of earning for those journal companies. Since mathematicians doing research have no other alternative way to gain access to a pure research article, they have no alternative other than getting access to the paid version to read and cite articles.

Whereas news are like flowers in the common man’s garden where both a truck driver and the president of a country can visit. Therefore, making online news paid may not be a wise thing to do. Even many very rich person spend cautiously these days.

Finally how does this author accesses news? I read news through news feed section of a popular social networking site. Recently, I met through some branded international news providers, urging to go to their paid version to read their articles, which obviously prompted me to write this article. I removed those news companies from my liked list of newspapers.

In my opinion, news media companies should try to earn their revenue by other means like ads. Most readers don’t mind ads as long as the news is free. A paid version of news may be kept optional for readers who don’t want to view scattered ads around a news item.

Well finally time will answer if really one day all online news providing companies will shift to a paid subscription edition like printed paper version of newspapers.

At least people like this author will be the last person to support this mode of commercialization. News means the voice of truth, freedom and democracy, hence my appeal will be to keep online news free of charges.
