Pillars of mitral regurgitation treatment-
[ ] First see if patient is symptomatic.
[ ] In symptomatic mitral regurgitation patients perform echocardiography to check left ventricle function (which is assessed by ejection fraction and left ventricle end systolic diameter)
[ ] Normal ventricular function is indicated by ejection fraction more than 60% or diameter of left ventricle less than 40 mm.
[ ] Ejection fraction of 60% or less or left ventricle diameter 40 mm or more indicate left ventricle dysfunction.
[ ] Patients with mitral regurgitation who are symptomatic and/or have deranged left ventricle function are treated with surgery.
[ ] Surgery is done by means of repairing the valve or replacing the valve.
